Circa 1950s hand carved and hand painted Hopi Dance Tableta. Measures about 16.5" x 14.5". Made from plywood, decorated with bright paint, symbols for rain and real feathers, with a central Polik-Mana figure. Feathers missing from the back as pictured. Tabletas are made by a male relative and gifted to a young maiden. Typically secured by a circle of corn husk to thread the hair through, along with leather straps and string. In very good used condition, signs of wear commensurate with age. Tabletas are now rare to acquire.
